Did you know that Lowell is home to several native species of turtles? Whether you can name one turtle species or all of them, join us on Earth Day when we’ll be “talking turtles” at the Pollard Memorial Library.
A presentation by LP&CT’s intern, Valerie Miller, will help you learn about local turtles, why they are important to our ecosystem, and which ones are on the threatened species list, including the Blanding’s turtle. You will also get to see a couple of juvenile Blanding’s turtles live and in-person!
This talk is in partnership with Lowell Loves Wildlife and is part of a Conservation Series at the Pollard Memorial Library. The event is also part of the Lowell National Historical Park’s April PLAYcation week of events.
About the presenter: Valerie Miller is an undergraduate student at UMass Lowell, working on her degree in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology. She is particularly interested herpetology (the study of reptiles), conservation biology, and urban ecology. Valerie helps care for LP&CT’s Blanding’s turtle hatchlings in our office, among other projects.
