During 2020 and early 2021, students at UMass Lowell and students/researchers associated with the Lawrence History Center began collecting oral histories, from people living or working in Lowell and Lawrence, about their experiences during the COVID-19 Pandemic. In this presentation, we’ll begin by providing details about how this project came about and how we connected with people willing to share their stories. We’ll then read a few excerpts from the oral histories, covering topics such as healthcare, education, childcare, air travel, managing non-profits, starting mutual aid associations, and dealing with everyday issues such as mask wearing and COVID testing. This work will be published by Loom Press in spring 2022.
