LOWELL, MASSACHUSETTS - Mayor William Samaras will join Professor John Wooding, and the rest of the Lowell City of Learning Team at the Mayor’s Reception Room on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. for a special presentation as they provide a preview of the upcoming Lowell Festival of Learning to take place from April 29thto May 5th.  Tuesday’s presentation will include an official mayoral proclamation of the “Celebration of Learning” week during the festival.

Lowell as a city of learning and the idea of Lowell as an educational hub is built into its DNA going back to Patrick Mogan’s vision in the late 1970s of Lowell as “an educative city.” The urban National Historical Park was part of that vision and has made Lowell a destination city. Lowell has the educational institutions, the museums and art galleries, the community of artists of all kinds, and hundreds of community groups that offer educational programming that stretches from vegetable gardening to glass blowing to citizenship training.

In celebration of these roots, the opening night reception of the Festival of Learning will be an evening program on the life and work of Dr. Patrick Mogan.  The event, City of Learning:  Realizing the Mogan Legacy will take place at The Richard & Nancy Donahue Family Academic Arts Center on April 29 th at 6:00 p.m.

The six-day festival will include dozens of other events and will culminate with the annual Earth Day Parade and Festival on Sunday, May 5th.  For more information and a complete schedule of events, visit www.lowellcityoflearning.org
